Printing and Filing Messages, Bulletins and other items
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Any item currently on screen, anywhere within Power-QWK, can
be printed or appended to a DOS file.
Press P for Print or F for File when the item you want is
visible on screen.
For instance, if you want a copy of Bulletin Number 14, first
select 'Bulletins' from the Power-QWK Topics Menu; use the
cursor keys to highlight Bulletin 14; press Return to display
the Bulletin and then press P to send it to the printer or F
to append it to a file.
When you press F for File, Power-QWK prompts you for a file name,
offering the name given in the Power-QWK Configuration as a
suggestion (if you retained the default value then this name will
be POWERQWK.FIL). You can of course change the suggested name to
some other file name but the system is designed to save you
typing.
The same name is also offered if you use the X (for eXtra) or
I (for Import) options to include the contents of a file in a
message or reply.
So you can use this file as a sort of scratchpad. F for File puts
information into it (from anywhere), X or I when in a conference
extracts information from it.
When you press P for Print, Power-QWK's action depends on how you
have configured printer actions.
If you have told Power-QWK that you have no printer then an error
message is displayed and no printer action is initiated.
If you have told Power-QWK that you do have a printer then, if
you have asked for 'Continue?' prompts, Power-QWK will display
a message and then pause waiting for you to press a key.
At this point you may press Esc to cancel the printing action or
any other key to continue.
If you have not asked for 'Continue?' prompts then Power-QWK
initiates the printing action immediately.
